"Ahead Of Its Time" IMAX Documentary
Located in the Parnell Centre, Parnell Street - where Cineworld cinema currently stands, Dublin’s original IMAX cinema (then known as the Sheridan IMAX Theatre) opened in June, 1998 and closed suddenly in October, 2000, lasting only a little over 2 years. The staff were told one day before the closure, resulting in a battle for statutory redundancy. With the largest screen in Ireland (62 x 82 feet), IMAX was a one of a kind experience for cinema-goers.

Why Is This Different?
We aim to tell the story of Dublin's original IMAX cinema, from Conception to Closure, through the eyes & views of the original staff members, including: Managers, Supervisors, Projectionists & Floor Staff. "Ahead Of Its Time" gives a unique insight into how the cinema was developed, how it ran and ultimately why staff believe it closed. Find out the story of the behind the scenes struggle to keep a cinematic dream alive, against the odds.

Cast/Crew
So far we have filmed the original 3 Managers, a Projectionist & a number of Floor Staff. We potentially have another 8-10 people lined up to be interviewed, and we are still re-connecting with & tracking down former staff members.

Rob (Director)
- I’m actually a former IMAX staff member myself, which is why this project is close to my heart. IMAX led me into a decade long career as a 35mm Film & Digital Cinema Projectionist. I want to tell the story of the original IMAX cinema, the staff who worked there, the unrelenting belief and love they had, and still have, for a cinema that only lasted a short period of time. I have previously worked on several self-funded documentaries, reality series & more!

Why Support Us?
Like my previous documentaries, I self-funded this project and took it as far as I could myself, but now I need your support. I've filmed 5 key interviews so far, which you can see in the trailer! By pledging your support, you will enable us to complete this documentary, which is almost half-way through initial filming.

The money raised from our Fund it campaign will be used for:
- Completing Filming
- Editing
- Original Music Score
- Equipment
- Exclusive Screening of “Ahead Of Its Time”

Supporting us ensures that we can complete filming, go straight into editing, and host an exclusive screening of the documentary, tickets for which are only available through Fund it! We aim to complete filming in early Summer with a view to hosting the screening in late Summer, within Dublin, at a venue TBC.

Thank you for taking the time to read what our project is all about. Hopefully it comes across how pasionate we are about making this documentary, about working in IMAX, and our drive to make it over the final hurdles to the finish line. I hope you can see from the trailer that this is a story worth telling, worth hearing and worth supporting.

Thank you for your time,
Rob (Director)
