All of these artists have exhibited before, in an exhibition titled 'BEYOND; Irish Outsider Art' which was curated by Brent Pope in 2015. I have been working with one of these artists, Siobhán Kelly, for about 8 months now and I thought it would be great, to organise a small exhibition with Siobhán and a couple of other artists. The response from the group was fantastic and quite a number of the original 18 expressed their interest in exhibiting. Suddenly the project became bigger than I had originally anticipated! But its wonderful! 'Lost & Found' the exhibition theme was born and the artists were given the freedom to interpret the theme and develop work for submission. The artists are from different parts of the country, some work in supported studios, others work alone and perhaps don't have the benefits and opportunities that are available to the bigger studios. I believe that these artists deserve a platform, the work speaks for itself. The images are honest, raw, humourous and just generally unaffected, if that is the right term, its captivating. I have no doubt many others will feel the same when they see the work for themselves.
The artists exhibiting are from different parts of the country and the group is comprised of painters, illustrators, textile work and possibly some sculptures. Its very exciting that this group can come together and exhibit again. It will be a great opportunity for them to meet again in Dublin and hopefully this is something that can develop into a yearly event.
The funding is to cover essential costs, such as rent of exhibition space, promotional material, rewards and wine for the launch
The exhibition will be held in Film Base in Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
September 1st - 11th
