A Change Can Happen

By A Change Can Happen

description

A Change Can Happen is a non profit, illustrated, series of ten short stories for children. Illustrated by ten artists using very different styles such as print, watercolour, graffiti, photography etc.

Aimed at Children aged 6-9, the stories are incredibly interactive with some written in rhyme and other stories such as the dyslexia book, written backwards and upside down, requiring a mirror to read them. The aim is to be fun to counter act the seriousness of the topics we are approaching.
All the profits will go to charities linked with a book topic. For example the book on homelessness will donate its profits to The Simon Community.
The books aim to simultaneously teach children to respect and understand these serious issues whilst also donating to charity. Fun, Friendly and Funding those who need it most.

I've a degree in Politics but have done several courses in Publications and Press Release as well as having worked for several NGO's. I'm working with ten different artists from backgrounds in Printmaking, Childrens Illustration Courses, The Crawford and Childcare etc.
Annie Forrester, Annie Hogg, Aoife Judge, Caroline Winters, Dominic Fee, Eric Twomey, Fiona Walsh, Hazel Hurley, Kathleen O'Leary, Tessa Shiels Roberts.

Also working with photographer Joe McNulty from Hot Press Magazine who has done documentaries before on The Homeless Crisis in Cork and Dublin.

Furthermore Mad About Cork who are known for working as ReImagine Cork are alongside us on the project.

Editors include Roz Crowley Owner and Editor at On Stream Publications Ltd.

Whilst the books are being illustrated and written for free, the main bulk of the costs are printing, distributing and marketing. This requires crowdfunding because between the artists and myself we wouldn't be able to raise that money from our own accounts. We will be doing fundraisers in Cork City and have already gotten approval for financial backing from a business owner in Cork which will all help to contribute to the series.

Printing 1,000 copies of each book in gloss (A3) (a.k.a 10,000 books) = €5,600
Distribution/Storage of books= €40 a week for up to 40 weeks
Seeds for the environment book= €500
Rewards postage= €400+
Materials for artists= €500
Graphic designer/accounting services for charity set up= €800

Challenges will be distributing the books across Ireland but with a solid marketing plan pulling on all our connections we aim to have the books in schools, libraries, clubs, small book shops, etc by October. Marketing the books by being on the Late Late Toy Show in November again through connections will help with this. Ensuring the Charities receive a fair distribution of funds by dividing profits up between them evenly using accountants for the company.

I can't thank you enough for showing an interest and taking the time to read up on us. If you can pledge anything at all to this project, you'll not only be contributing to the showcasing of several artists but educating kids and donating to charity.

WE DID IT!

We have made our 10,000 euro goal in the 6 weeks thanks to all of your incredible support. I have never been more humbled by the donations coming in and the consistent likes and shares of our project on social media. The next phase is finalising the edits of the stories and bringing together the images. We will go to print in August and there will be an official launch at the end of September. We are excited to showcase to you this wonderful series you believed in enough to support. We are the change that can happen! Thank you so much again!

4000 and counting

Hi all, Just a quick update to say we are now at 4,000 euro and counting! I am thrilled and want to thank each and every one of you for donating and believing in this project. Until the project is complete I cannot see how much you donated or any information on the anonymous donations so to all of you I want to extend my sincere and heart felled thanks. We have 20 days to go to reach our goal, with some definite backers yet to add their contribution. With that in mind I believe this can be done. If you know anyone who would be interested in donating please send on the link. The more the better no matter how small the donation! Thank you all so much!

Nearing the 3000 mark

Hi all, it's been two weeks and we are nearly at 3,000euro. A major thank you to anyone who has funded us or supported us at one of our fundraisers. I am confident that in the next 29 days we can see this project making it to it's 10,000. We just need to keep spreading the word and encouraging people just to give as little or as much as possible! Thank you again so much, your support is very much appreciated!
