A Change Can Happen is a non profit, illustrated, series of ten short stories for children. Illustrated by ten artists using very different styles such as print, watercolour, graffiti, photography etc.
Aimed at Children aged 6-9, the stories are incredibly interactive with some written in rhyme and other stories such as the dyslexia book, written backwards and upside down, requiring a mirror to read them. The aim is to be fun to counter act the seriousness of the topics we are approaching.
All the profits will go to charities linked with a book topic. For example the book on homelessness will donate its profits to The Simon Community.
The books aim to simultaneously teach children to respect and understand these serious issues whilst also donating to charity. Fun, Friendly and Funding those who need it most.
I've a degree in Politics but have done several courses in Publications and Press Release as well as having worked for several NGO's. I'm working with ten different artists from backgrounds in Printmaking, Childrens Illustration Courses, The Crawford and Childcare etc.
Annie Forrester, Annie Hogg, Aoife Judge, Caroline Winters, Dominic Fee, Eric Twomey, Fiona Walsh, Hazel Hurley, Kathleen O'Leary, Tessa Shiels Roberts.
Also working with photographer Joe McNulty from Hot Press Magazine who has done documentaries before on The Homeless Crisis in Cork and Dublin.
Furthermore Mad About Cork who are known for working as ReImagine Cork are alongside us on the project.
Editors include Roz Crowley Owner and Editor at On Stream Publications Ltd.
Whilst the books are being illustrated and written for free, the main bulk of the costs are printing, distributing and marketing. This requires crowdfunding because between the artists and myself we wouldn't be able to raise that money from our own accounts. We will be doing fundraisers in Cork City and have already gotten approval for financial backing from a business owner in Cork which will all help to contribute to the series.
Printing 1,000 copies of each book in gloss (A3) (a.k.a 10,000 books) = €5,600
Distribution/Storage of books= €40 a week for up to 40 weeks
Seeds for the environment book= €500
Rewards postage= €400+
Materials for artists= €500
Graphic designer/accounting services for charity set up= €800
Challenges will be distributing the books across Ireland but with a solid marketing plan pulling on all our connections we aim to have the books in schools, libraries, clubs, small book shops, etc by October. Marketing the books by being on the Late Late Toy Show in November again through connections will help with this. Ensuring the Charities receive a fair distribution of funds by dividing profits up between them evenly using accountants for the company.
I can't thank you enough for showing an interest and taking the time to read up on us. If you can pledge anything at all to this project, you'll not only be contributing to the showcasing of several artists but educating kids and donating to charity.
