Acting OUT: Pride

By Acting Out

description

Our theatre strand forms part of Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride’s and is expanding this year, to run for two weeks in the middle of the festival. It will feature a new Irish play, two new short plays and the Irish premiere of a classic comedy from one of Liverpool’s best known writers. So there is something for everybody! All performances will take place at the brilliant studio theatre at Teacher’s Club in Parnell Square in Dublin.

Total budget for the project is €5,000. And we are hoping to raise €1,500 through this crowdfunding campaign (more would be excellent!)

If successful money will be used to help pay royalties to the writers, fees for designers and operators and props and costumes.

Acting Out are Dublin’s award winning LGBTQ drama group based in Outhouse. Our last play for Dublin Pride, The Decriminalisation Monologues, recently won the 2020 National GALA Award for Arts and Entertainment, the second time we have won this award. That play was also nominated for Best New Play at Brighton Fringe, Prague Fringe and Greater Manchester Fringe. We received the Hilton Edwards Award for our production of, The Ref.

We have ten years experience of successfully carrying out projects including touring work to festivals abroad. This funding would definitely allow us to improve the quality of the productions and therefore the audience experience!

We have had a great time performing the last couple of Pride festivals with The Decriminalisation Monologues and Casa Valentina - it's a great time to feature work with an LGBTQ theme and the support of straight allies has been brilliant too.

Thanks a million for your help! We couldn’t do it without you. See you at Pride 2020!

Opening Up on audio

Hi folks

As you know, we've had to postpone our Acting Out:Pride event due to the unmentionable. We will have to wait until the guidelines for performance become clearer before we can set dates but in the meantime Dublin Pride is going digital this year  and they asked whether we could do anything for it. So we decided to make an audio recording of Opening Up, one of the pieces we'd been planning to do. This wil be released during Pride Week but we plan to send our lovely supporters a link to it a few days earlier, just as a small thank you, so watch out for it!

The Acting Out Team x

Thanks a million!

Folks

Thanks so much for all your support with our Acting Out:Pride crowdfunder which has met (and exceeded) our target.

Because of the current situation it's fairly certain Pride will move dates and we will move dates for the shows too when this happens. Because of this, there will be some delay with issuing rewards for those that opted for them, but hopefully it won't be too long before we can proceed!

Thanks again, we hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. We look forward to you seeing all the shows in Acting Out:Pride when this current situation passes.

Acting Out

You did it!

In a time of unrelentingly bad news it's wonderful to be able to give a little good news. Thanks to your amazing generosity we have reached our crowdfunding target a week early!

We are keeping the crowdfunder open for the rest of the week, as some people have said they still want to donate but just haven't got round to it!

Most artists are freelancers and this is a devastating time for them as shows get cancelled and they don't get paid. Many also supplement their income in the hospitality trade so it's a double whammy. If you've something to spare then the Civic Theatre in Talllaght is organising a fund to help them and you can donate here⬇️

Finally, we really hope all this is over by June, but should Pride move dates from June, we will follow it but we will keep you in the loop about that.

Thanks again, lovely people, and we look forward to seeing you at the shows (and sorting out your rewards!)

Nearly there!

Folks

We are over 80% now! So close! Thanks a million for your generosity.

Just to say with all the Covid-19 pandemic shenanigans, it's possible that Pride may shift dates to later in the summer, in which case we will of course also shift the dates of the shows.

Thanks again!

Acting Out

Two thirds of the way there!

Hey folks

Just a short update! Thanks to your amazing generosity we are now at 2/3 of our crowdfunding target for Acting Out:Pride! We've just under two weeks to hit our target, so anything you can do to spread the word is much appreciated.

One of the new shows we will be doing for our Pride offering is called, Best Served Cold, a twisty comedy/drama about a revenge. Here's a link to the trailer - it will have it's debut at Brighton Fringe, where we were nominated for Best New Play in 2018 and 2019. (If you have any pals in the Brighton area, tell them to look out for it!)

Acting Out

Halfway there!

Folks

We are just about halfway there to our target which is brilliant! Thanks again to all of you, it's great to know we have your support, particularly in a week that saw us also receive some horrible homophobic abuse on-line. But this has just made us more determined to present work which gives an authentic presentation of LGBTQ+ lives in all their complexity.

So if you could continue to spread the word about the campaign that would be fantastic!

Thanks a million.

Acting Out

A great start!

We are off to a great start on our crowdfunder for Acting Out:Pride! A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Rehearsals for two of the shows we will be featuring have already started. Please keep spreading the word!
