description

Twisted Focus, founded by Anna Clifford, Nicola Lucey, Clare Monnelly and Caoimhe O'Malley in a closet sized office in The Gaiety School of Acting, Sycamore Street is dedicated to bringing contemporary, thought - provoking, truthful work to the Irish Stage.

Apples by John Rettalack, adapted from the novel by Richard Milward - is a play about sex and the city when you’re 15.

“Apples cocks an unflinching hard-stare at the sharp end of teenage life, and the play is edgy, exciting and quite brilliant. The drugs, the sex, the boozing… it all smacks beautifully of the real thing.” Time Out

It has toured the UK and was a winner of the coveted Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We we’re drawn to it because it’s a play all about young people, it’s truthful, relevant, funny and hard hitting too – it says something real and we wanted people to see it.

So we took this gritty yet comic fairytale, set it in Dublin and in collaboration with Dublin Theatre Company staged a production of Apples in Ri – Ra last year, which was directed by Ronan Wilmot and had a cast of young, enthusiastic and deadly actors (Anna Clifford, Ruairí Heading, Diane Jennings, Matthew Kelly, Mark Lavery, & Nicola Lucey)!

Check them out in our promo video: here

It went down so well the first time we’ve been asked to it all over again and bring it back this year to The New Theatre. Apples will be staged in The New Theatre Jan 28th - Feb 2nd @7.30pm.

However, we need your help to bring this wonderful piece of work to a whole new audience in a whole new arena – a proper theatre! In order to bring Apples back we need money to pay for licenising rights, theatre space , designers (sound, lighting, graphics) and posters and flyers to make sure we get as many people as possible to enjoy a wonderful night of theatre.

Anything you feel you could donate - no matter how small would be greatly appreciated and instrumental in helping us stage this “a raw, humorous and truthful piece of work”

Thank you for reading and all your support. Lots of Love all of us at Twisted Focus xxx

Cooking Apples...

Hi to all our amazing FUNDIT team! We’ve just finished our Tech Day….theatre jargon for the day when you get into the theatre and attempt to arrange all the props and costumes backstage (also some ironing involved here unfortunately!), rig the lights, plot the lighting and sound design and tell the actors where to stand and when to move….so a) the lighting and sound effects all blend seamlessly into the show and b) no one bumps into each other accidently! Our brilliant lightening designer Nell and sound designer James working their magic and our ever reliable stage manager Laura ensuring everything ran smoothly and on time…. almost! As for our wonderful and energetic cast - they were just delighted to be on the stage and were eagerly anticipating sharing the wonderful story of “Apples” with audiences over the next week. It’s thanks to your contribution to the show that this was all possible. In addition with your help we’ve got fabulous posters/flyers all over town and even a giant sandwich board for outside the Theatre so no one can miss us! Hope you all have a lovely week and can make it down to The New Theatre, Temple Bar this week (Jan 28th – Feb 2nd ) to enjoy the show you made possible with your kind donations. Oh and there’s loads of Apple Drops there to be eaten too so pop in and help yourself. Lots of Love Twisted Focus xxx
