At Large Theatre Company is a Dublin-based troupe focused on producing new works for theatre. We do funny, we do serious, we do silly, we do innovative, we do it indoors, we do it outdoors, we do it in front of you, we do it behind you, and wherever we do it, we do original and dynamic and interesting. And this year, 2016, we are taking three brand new plays to the Edinburgh Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival for two weeks, from August 14th to 27th (and, yes, we would love to see you there!).
All three plays have been written and developed in-house, starting out as fifteen-minute shorts and then being expanded into full one-act pieces having gone through At Large’s own internal dramaturgical process. The three plays are:
* Beryl, written by Lesley-Ann Reilly, is a drama about a woman who provides cross-dressing services to men and her initial meeting with her first customer, a bachelor by the name of Frank Roche.
* The Meeting, written by Grainne Curistan, is a comedy revolving around work-place idiosyncracies, rivalries, misunderstandings, and baseball bats.
* Nowhere Now, written by Daniel O'Brien, is an absurd drama about international trade agreements, modern working life, and cows (and has just featured in the Scene + Heard festival of New Work at Smock Alley).
We need you!
At Large has staged a show at the Fringe before but we have never taken three plays at the same time. This is an ambitious project and we are going to need your help to pull it off. We are paying for transport ourselves and in addition each cast member is making a significant contribution towards costs. Your donation will help us to pay for the cost of hiring the venue, renting rehearsal space in the run-up, perfecting our props and costumes and keeping a roof over the heads of cast and crew for the duration of our run in the festival. We are asking for your generosity to ensure that we can cover all the costs of performing in Edinburgh.
Come see us in Dublin at Stage 2 and Stage 3!
Now that you’ve heard of our three Fringe-bound plays, we would love for you to see them, live and in person, in Dublin. The Meeting and Beryl will be staged together on the 29th and 30th of April at 8pm in the Harbour Playhouse (Stage 2). Buy tickets here. All three pieces will be re-developed and performed again in late July or early August (Stage 3) in The Complex – dates to be announced soon! We also run weekly workshops every Thursday, in The Lab, from 7.00pm; if you want to be part of creating exciting new theatre, get yourself along. New faces are always welcome!
We truly appreciate any and all support that you can offer us. We simply cannot bring these plays to the Fringe without your help.
Thanking you very sincerely in advance.
