The Cairde Arts Festival is Sligo’s much loved annual multi-disciplinary arts festival. It is a true celebration of arts and creativity and people with a great range of extremely high quality, inclusive and accessible local, national and international events including theatre, dance, music, street events, spoken word and lots of fun events for children and families. Cairde also works with a variety of community groups in the lead up to the festival. This year's festival runs from July 10th to 14th.
The festival is not for profit and is run by a small and committed voluntary team.
Each year we spend the final day of the festival at Park Fest in Sligo's Peace Park enjoying a range of circus, theatre, music, dance, workshops and lots of fun and creative activities suitable for the whole family. For most people, Park Fest is the highlight of the Cairde Arts Festival.
2013 is the 10th anniversary of the inception of the Cairde Arts Festival and we would like to do something truly exciting & unique.
We would love to emulate the magic & atmosphere of an Olde World Circus Carnivale featuring magic shows, sword swallowing, knife throwing, the strong man, the bearded lady, flea circus, puppet shows and more. We want to transform Sligo’s Peace Park (a natural amphitheatre) and bring all of these quirky nods to nostalgia to life... and we are looking for your help.
In tandem with creating the world of the old circus carnival and providing a range of entertainment from that period for young and old and all us in-betweeners, we’ll also be running fun visual events like ‘Most Magnificent Moustache” and “Beautiful Brimmed Bonnets” as well as activities for children like hoop & stick, marbles, sack race and more.
The Cairde Arts Festival is loved and supported by people and business in Sligo as well as visitors to Sligo and we are very grateful for this. We are looking for extra assistance towards making this years Park Fest a really memorable event. The Cairde team behind this event are working on a voluntary basis and every euro raised goes towards creating the event.
So roll up, roll up and join in the fun and adventure at this year’s Park Fest on Sunday July 14th!
We thank the many people who volunteer each year to keep the Cairde Arts Festival alive, dynamic, vibrant and fun!
