Cinderella

By The Source Arts Centre

description

Oh yes you will!

Come and support THE panto of the season! It's packed full of local talent, a cast of over 80 kids and teenagers, and you'll spot friends and neighbours (and maybe a councillor or two...) giving it their all as the much loved cast of Cinderella. It'll be a ball!

What is the show?

Yes, it's panto time and this year it's the rags to riches tale, Cinderella.  The most popular of all Christmas pontomimes is given a modern make-over, a strong community cast, and a magical setting in a space that will be transformed into dungeons, castles and the thrill of a ball!  Every two years, The Source Arts Centre in Tipperary produces a community Christmas show (see the video of The Pied Piper, 2009) and this year it has commissioned Thurles born director, Donal Gallagher, to write and direct a new updated version of this classic pantomime.

When is the show?

Seven performances will take place from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th December, 2011 at 7pm, with 3pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday.  All performances will take place in The Source Arts Centre, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

What will the show be like?

The traditional element of the pantomime will not be ignored as all the usual characters will be playing their part.  The Ugly Sisters, the ever optimistic Buttons, the Fairy Godmother and, of course, Prince Charming will all be making appearances.  The main cast will be accompanied by over 80 local teenagers and children (the youngest of whom is 4!) who will whisk you away in the whirl of the waltz to the wonderful world of Cinderella.  There will be many modern touches packed into this specially written script, and local contemporary references will place it firmly in the heart of the community.  The production will be enhanced by song and dance, comic commentary on current affairs, and more than a pinch of classic panto humour!  This seasonal show will be produced to the highest production values and will be a real opportunity for the local Tipperary community to get involved as participants and spectators without having to travel to Dublin, Cork or beyond!

What will your donation do?

Money raised through this campaign will be put towards the writing of this very special take on a classic tale.  It will help pay for costumes, set design, materials and all the backstage magic that makes showtime so special!  The Source is supporting the production from its central budget, but additional funding is needed to ensure that Cinderella gets her man!

So a sprinkle of fairy dust and a big thank you to everyone who supports us! Help bring the magic of Cinderella to Tipperary this Christmas!

Who's who?

Thurles born Donal Gallagher is Artistic Director of Asylum Productions and a freelance director whose work has been seen in Ireland, Britain and Germany.  Donal directed the brilliant tennis comedy  Love All, for the Clonmel Junction Festival and ran The Source's Inkubator new writing project for three years.  The Source is thrilled to welcome him to Thurles for his first full production in his home town!

Local solicitor Michelle O'Connell will be Assistant Director and Siobhan King will be the choreographer.  The set and light design will be done by The Source's in-house technician, Arno Nauwels.  The stunning local cast includes: Emily Matthews (Cinderella), Jack Rossiter (Buttons), Jacob Keogh (Prince Charming), Frank Tuohy (Fairy Godmother), Maria O'Grady (the Wicked Stepmother) and Pat Strapp (Bertie Ahern) to name but a few!

Help us have the Ball of the year!
