Dublin8 Space Program-Iceland expedition

By Dublin 8 Space Program

description

My name is Gillian Fitzpatrick. I am an artist living and working in Dublin, I make sculpture, video and installation art and my artwork is very influenced by Space Age designs and ideas and Sci-fi films. I am here on Fundit looking for your support for the inaugural mission of the Dublin 8 Space Program.

The Dublin 8 Space Program aims to explore the possibilities and promises of the early years of space exploration through creative projects.

For this, my first mission, I will be travelling to Iceland, I have been given the opportunity to spend two months on a residency with SÍM, The Icelandic Association of Visual Artists in Reykjavik and I plan to use this time creating a new piece of work around the idea of the astronaut/explorer, discovering a strange new environment. I want to work with some of the unique features of the Icelandic landscape from geothermal pools, to ice caves and black sand beaches and make a video, shooting in these locations. I plan to exhibit this new work both in Iceland and back here in Ireland when I return.

However I need to raise funds towards the cost of this expedition, accommodation/studio rental, transportation, equipment hire etc. I have received some support from the Arts Council of Ireland, and I hope to raise more funding here on Fundit.

So please, if you can, give your support to the Dublin 8 Space Program! To take a look at the fabulous rewards on offer follow this link http://cargocollective.com/gillfitz#2531960/Dublin-8-Space-Program

With thanks
Gill
