I'm the lead actor and writer of the play 'A Fear And Loathing Actor In Dublin' (AFALAID) and I'm super excited to say we're bringing my play to Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August.
'A Fear And Loathing Actor in Dublin' is explosive new writing about being an artist in the 21st Century. Struggling actor Vinny has just discovered he's to be a dad. Will he follow his passion, or get a real job? All while trying to deal with his own demons, many self-inflicted. This is a fast paced, high energy, physical piece of theatre that features Shakespeare monologues delivered in a fresh new way at key dramatic moments. Written in a raw Beat Generation style, the character Vinny splits into his ‘inner self’ and ‘outer self’ (played by different actors) to highlight the battle raging in his head at times of crisis. This play is an honest examination of what it means to be an artist in modern Ireland, exploring one’s existential battle with art and commerce through a sincere and captivating performance. This will be its U.K. premiere and we are really excited to bring a contemporary play about modern Ireland to an international audience.
We had an amazing first run in Dublin at Theatre 36 in September 2018. Audiences were buzzing after the show.
“A timely wake-up call to audiences to see the bigger picture if we want creativity and the arts to survive in this increasingly commercial world" Maura Walsh, NearFM
Our super talented and experienced cast (Fiach Kunz / Lisa Tyrell / Gary Buckley and myself) have worked on projects including Game of Thrones, Vikings, Ripper Street, Into The Badlands, Four Kids and It, Three Days of Rain & King Lear. Director is Lee Wilson (Running With Dinosaurs, Pork, The Eurydice Project). Currently apprentice Artistic Director, Gate Theatre.
I've invested €8,000 into the project which helps to cover Venue Hire, PR, Marketing and other fees, and I've also received a small investment, but we need a little more help via Fund it to get us over the line. This is such an expensive undertaking and every bit of cash really helps.
If successful your amazing support will go towards helping with paying for:
If we successfully reach our target we will be bringing my show to one of, if not the biggest theatre festival in the world, Edinburgh Fringe 2019. Edinburgh Fringe is an amazing opportunity to showcase the play and the brilliant actors on an international platform. This new piece of writing reflects modern Ireland to a worldwide theatre audience.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I am so excited to be bringing a project I really believe in to an international audience. And hopefully with your help we can make this a reality.
