After five years working in communications, I made the decision to leave the corporate world behind and start my own food business, Vegan Sandwich Co - a company with a simple mission to create plant based food without compromise.
Since our launch, we have been looking to get our products in front of as many people as possible. We have done festivals throughout Summer 2019, Christmas Markets and have two regular weekly markets - Honest2Goodness and Twilight. The feedback has been truly incredible and whether it's a Chick*n Fillet Roll, a Breakfast Muffin or any of our other menu items, it's been so heartwarming to see people coming back to the stall time and time again.
Over the past few months, as part of Food Academy, we have been working behind the scenes to create our first ever retail products. We want everyone to be able to enjoy amazing vegan sandwiches at home so have been preparing to launch retail packs of our Bac*n, Chick*n Pieces and Cheeze. With your help, these will be launching Summer 2020.
What will the funding go towards?
At the moment, every penny we spend has to be a penny we've earned. I didn't come into this business with a lot of funding behind me, but I did come with a huge amount of drive to build a successful vegan business. If this crowdfunding campaign is successful, we will be able to distribute our products to any stores that wish to stock them. We are launching in Dublin this Summer and hope to expand nationwide in 2021.
Primarily, this funding will be spent purchasing a new Vegan Sandwich Co Van which will be used to distribute our retail products and get us to more markets and events.
The van will have a huge impact on the business, increasing our output and allowing us to bring our creative and innovative food to more people right across the country. It will make it possible for us to trial our products in Dublin stores as part of SuperValu Food Academy and attend new festivals this Summer.
Since starting this business, we have tried to get our food in front of as many people as possible and with your help, more and more people will be able to try our food. Our capacity to supply stores is currently limited as we rely on GoCars so this would be a real game-changer for us.
The estimated cost of this is €7,000. The remaining €3,000 will go towards our biodegradable packaging, a new chamber vacuum packing machine and packaging design. If we exceed our target, anything above the target will go towards a food trailer for our events.
What rewards are there?
We have some really exciting rewards to offer anyone who invests through the crowdfund, including market stall giveaways, limited edition merchandise as well as invites to an exclusive dinner event in Honest2Goodness, where we transform our market menu into a full plant-based meal.
