Who am I?
I've worked as a professional storyteller for 20 years. I use storytelling as a form of communication, expression and healing. I travel all over the country and abroad to share my stories in many different settings from village halls to spoken word/music festivals, from universities to peoples living rooms. I am also a writer of folklore, and as I have a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art, I illustrate all my books.
What is this project about?
The majority of my work is in schools, libraries and hospitals, which have all been cancelled due to the pandemic.
I applied for a Masters Degree in Limerick College of Art and Design in January 2020. I've since been offered a place but I'm unable to raise all the money myself.
It's an MA in Social Practice and the Creative Environment. It is described as a vibrant, experimental level 9 programme, which focuses on creating socially engaged and interactive art.
Up until the pandemic I had €1,500 saved for my tuition fees in the hope I would be offered a place.
I need €4,000 altogether for the tuition fees so I'm hoping to raise €2,500.
The pledges will be used to pay the remainder of the fees, and anything extra will be used for further educational expenses.
How you can help me achieve this goal?
Since lock-down I've been trying to be as creative as possible by providing free storytelling events via my 'Irish Gothic' page on Facebook which have proved to be very successful.
As a token of my appreciation and part of my fundraising campaign I'm planning to facilitate some activities eg. short performances and artist workshops via my 'Irish Gothic' facebook page, these will include spot prizes for those who have pledged. One such event will take place on 4th July 2020 at 10-11:30PM GMT.
This seems an ideal way to reconnect with the public and create a wider audience, giving you a chance to be involved with my development as a storyteller, author and researcher.
In return for your pledging I've carefully picked some exclusive rewards.
Many Thanks.
I'd like to thank you kindly for supporting me. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will help me get one step closer to undertaking my Masters degree.
I will keep you updated on my progress thoughtout the year on my 'Irish Gothic' facebook page and I promise to share my ideas and projects with you as they evolve.
I will keep any promises made with regards to rewards.
I hope you can join me on my quest to fullfill my vocation as a storyteller & author.
Best wishes,
Steve Lally
