Life by Maria Ann Hylton

By Maria Ann Hylton

description

'Life' with your generous help will be our 4th short film. It is a story about Sarah, a young woman who during a walk along the beach with her beloved Father Sean, finally opens up and discusses the tragic loss of her Mother.

It will be a moving, thought provoking and visually striking film which deals with themes such as loss, regret, identity and reconciliation.

OUR PLAN

We need to raise at least €3,500 to contribute to the costs estimated at €5000.

We ourselves have raised €1,500. All funds will be used for hiring equipment, insurance, locations, costumes, makeup, props and post production (editing, sound design, grading).

It will be a 3-day shoot which will take place in October. Post-production will be completed by March 2014. The premiere will be held at a Dublin City location in April 2014.

We plan to submit this film to festivals in both Ireland and abroad. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated and is crucial to getting the project up and running.

Our previous short films - Waiting (2012) Bittersweet (2011) and The Couple (2005) have screened and won awards at various festivals including Short Film Corner Court Metrage - Cannes Film Festival, Fastnet Film Festival, Cork Film Festival, Portobello Film Festival, 3rd Annual Yellow Fever Film Festival, Clones Film Festival, KINOFILM, 2nd Underground Cinema Film Festival and included in Clermont – Ferrand's Short Film Market.

Life - In Post Production

Hello everyone, Yes we have shot 'Life' - a week ago today. Three day shoot all locations based in Malahide. Friday was a real test as we were outside ALL DAY on the beach! Liam Moran horse box came in bloody handy as the crew & cast could keep dry when they were not out and equipment protected. Everyone did come preprared in thier wet proofs & sturdy hiking boots though. What we captured was stunning, breath taking, painful and beautiful. Now we are in post. Thank you to the cast & crew. You are diamonds.

We Couldn't Have Done It Without You

Hello everyone, We are on schedule to film LIFE on the 18th, 19th, 20th October. We are counting down the days are busy and are organizing ourselves. We had our last rehearsals with the actors, we are securing permissions for locations, hiring equipment, filling in forms for the insurance, making sure we have enough umbrellas if it happens to rain, making sure that the production designer, makeup artist, hair & costume stylist, data wranglar have what they need. That the more experienced members of both crew and cast will pass on their knowledge to those trainees who are keen to learn. None of this would of come about without your help. Making those important pledges. We could not have done this without you. Thank you once again. Maria Ann Hylton & Liam Moran

Half way there...but not quite.

Hello Folks, Here's an update - we have secured 51%, that's €1805 of €3,500 which is our actual funding target. However we do so have 17 days left to reach 100%. We are not taking anything for granted we are out there spreading the word and letting folk know about this worthwhile project. We had our callbacks for 'Life' on Saturday 31st August and once again the actors that we saw gave it everything they got, but we could only choose two. They were Charleigh Bailey and Megan Doherty. We are very happy to have them both on board this project. A big thank you to the wonderful Amy Nic An TSionnaigh and Conor Delaney (who is cast as 'Sean' ) and Filmbase for helping me out at the callbacks. I will be meeting key crew members and interviewing for roles that have not been filled. We have had people send in their CV's to us who want to be part of this project which is fantastic. Thank you to those people who have been both so kind and generous with advice and support. We have two weeks left so if you are excited about 'Life' as we are - please keep spreading the word as we could not do this without you. Thank you. Happy Weekend.

'Life' - What's been happening in the last 2 weeks

It has been a very busy two weeks as this project is now picking up its own momentum. Conor Delaney (Unsaid, Hidden, Jack Taylor, Game Of Thrones) has signed up to 'Life' and he will be playing the role of 'Sean.' We are excited and delighted about this. We had our auditions on Saturday 24th August at Filmbase. We were looking for two strong actresses, one aged between 8 - 12 years and the other 18 - 25 years. They had to possess a diverse emotional range in order to be considered for the role of 'Sarah'. We were most fortunate to see so much talent that day. We had to make some hard decisions, but after a lot of deliberation we have chosen those actresses who we want to see in the callbacks on Saturday 31st August. A big thank you to the wonderful Jessie Keatley, Daniel Doyle and Filmbase in helping me out at the auditions. I had my first director's meeting with Laura Way (Speedtrap, How To Be Happy, Foyle's War, The Silence) who will be playing the role of 'Helen'. I know that Laura will bring something very special to a particularly demanding and diverse part. We are now looking at locations and the beautiful Velvet Strand on Malahide Beech looks like a strong contender. We can't wait to get Richard Donnelly our Director of Photography out there to check it out. For those of you who have already made their pledges, many thanks. As you can see progress is a bit slower than we like it to be this week. You are all by far our strongest ambassadors for the project to date. We would really appreciate if you all could ask 3 of your friends to make a pledge or we will struggle to reach our target. So keep spreading the word, direct your family, friends, associates to this page and let them know a good short film project needs their help to be funded. Every little helps. Thank you.

Keep Spreading The Word

Our first week on Fund it has passed - "a new all island crowdfunding website for Ireland’s creative projects, giving everyone the power to help good ideas happen". Our target is €3500 so far we have raised 6%. We have 6 weeks to raise the target and if we don't we will lose EVERYTHING! So it is ALL or NOTHING! So please keep spreading the word about our campaign 'Life' and help us reach our target.

We Are On The Move

We are on day 39 and counting down. The word is slowly, but surely getting out there. I met Conor Delaney a great actor yesterday and he has agreed to play Sean in 'Life'. We are excited and delighted. We also like to say a big thank you to Clodagh Downing, Denis Clohessy, Uriel Pollack and Bernie Malone for making a contribution. And please, keep spreading the word every little bit counts.

Our first 24 hours live - 'Life.'

Hello Everyone, This is our first full 24hrs since the launch of 'Life'. Many thanks to our first funder - Conor Murphy. We have 41 days to go and a long road ahead of us, but we are confident, enthusiastic and truly passionate about this project. We are getting the word out, but we also need your kind help. So please spread the word.
