Lo*Li*Ta

By Marie De La Gueronniere

description

Lo*Li*Ta tells the story of a girl, Lola, aged 12 years old, through the medium of dance, theatre and music. The show questions the early sexualisation of young girls in today’s society.

I am Marie de La Guéronnière; I am from France, I am a Lecoq graduate who moved to the North West of Ireland over five years ago where I have immersed myself in the world of theatre and life on the wild atlantic coast ever since. I have been working on the concept for Lo*Li*Ta over the past two years as this is a subject which truly fascinates me. I founded Leonie Prax Productions (named after my greatgrandmother) and was really thrilled when my application for Project funding to the Arts Council was successful... meaning I could get this show started.

The next step was to engage a wonderful creative collaborative team (which I did - see below!) and we are well on in the process of creating a show inspired by Nabokov’s novel Lolita which uses the cross over between theatre, music and dance to look at the diverse influences given by mass media, pop culture, religion, advertisement and fashion; that represent women in a subversive and contradictory way.

Our performance asks the questions: What is the definition of a “Lolita”? Who is Lolita today? What are her dreams? What are her fantasies? Who decides that a girl is a “Lolita”?

Together we have now devised, composed, moved and created a new, exciting and challenging work.

At the moment we have the opportunity to showcase this work with original partners in Leitrim at The Glens Centre and at The Dock in November 2014 but to have the best chance to meet with the industry we need to bring it to a Dublin Venue as well.

We are coming very close to the part where we get to share this work with the public and we need to raise funding to take us over the final hurdle. We would love if you could come on board to help us push this project over the finish line. We promise to take it to a theatre near you!

The funding will go towards set and costume manufacture, production transport, travel, accommodation, venue hire and promotion.

The Creative Team - music director & guitarist Donal Gunne; co-director Deirdre Molloy; Production designer Charlotte Villermet; dancers Aliina Lindroos and Laura Sarah Dowdall and musicians Colm O’Hara (trombone), Brian Walsh (drums) and Margie Lewis (vocals and fiddle).

We’d also like to thank the following venues for their help and support:
The Glens Centre, The Dock, Draoícht, The Civic Theatre.
