The aim of this project is to raise funds to record a CD of The Michael Mallin Suite, a newly composed suite of music to commemorate my Great Grandfather Michael Mallin the executed Chief of Staff of the Irish Citizens Army during the 1916 Rising.
Much of the suite is based around the final letters written by Mallin to his wife Agnes from his prison cell in Kilmainham Jail on the night before his execution.
The final letter to his parents on the same day will also form part of the project. Michael Mallin's final journey from Richmond Barracks where he was court-martialled to Kilmainham Gaol where he died.
His involvement as a union leader, he was a member of the weaver's union, will be acknowledged. As a musician, he formed the union band that sometimes played in Dublin's Liberty Hall. This will also be acknowledged in the suite.
I have recorded two albums of my own material, A studio album "Strings & Things" and a live album simply called "Live".
I was a member of the band Deiseal with whom I recorded two albums, "The Long (Long) Note" and "Sunshine Dance".
I was a also member of Eimear Quinn's band when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra have recorded albums with many various musical acts. They perform countrywide and internationally with different acts.
The albumss will be available on Irish Irish manufactured CDs.
Crowdfunding is a means in which the funders can take part ownership of the project. This would help attract people to it. I will also apply to the Arts Council for a possible additional grant.
Hire of the Chamber Orchestra conductor, rehearsals and musicians of a traditional or jazz background, €13000.
If enough funds are not raised to hire the Chamber Orchestra, different musicians or an alternative orchestra may have to be used albeit that they may not be of the same standard.
I would like to thank all those who took the time to read my proposal and to understand what it really means and I would also like to thank all the funders who helped me reach my target and allow me to hire one of the country's best orchestras.
