We are opening a café In the Project Arts Centre, in Temple Bar, but not just any café...
Our Table will be a non-profit café, that will be creating employment opportunities for people, leaving the confidence-stripping, disempowering asylum system, as well the wider migriant community. We will provide training (health and safety, barista training, management) and work experience in the Irish catering sector. Our aim is to highlight the plight of people living in direct provision and to help ex-direct provision residents to gain work experience and refresh their skills. Our Table is also building up a network of catering operators who are willing to support our project in many different ways. We aim to create a welcoming friendly space were food is used to break barriers and where people can meet and feel empowered. Our long term goal is to end Direct Provision in Ireland.
Our team is made up of residents of direct provision centres in Dublin as well as friends from the wider Irish public. We have worked together to highlight the awful conditions in direct provision and now want to move on to a more permanent project which aims to end the system.
We aim to create a longterm non profit business but need up front capital to get started. We have an enormous amount of good will and have help focus groups to find out the best way to proceed with our goals.

We have a strong board from many diverse backgrounds who will guide us through the initial stages of our project. Our greatest fear is that members of our group will be refused asylum in Ireland.
