Since 2009, we have produced work that has gained TRACES dancers a well-deserved reputation for exceptional productions. This time we want to include set and costume design and theatrical magic (technical wizardry), which all comes at a cost. It's hard to keep asking the same people to put their hand in their pocket so we are putting this out to the universe (via Fund it). With your help we will raise the funds needed to complete our mission!
We are counting down to our world premiere of ‘Out of this World!’
“TEN”… Crowdfunding will finance our amazing stage set, our fabulous costumes, our dazzling lighting design and our top-secret special effects!!
“NINE”… At Garter Lane Theatre Waterford on Friday 26th June 2015 at 7pm
“EIGHT”… TRACES Dance Ensemble is a unique contemporary dance company based in Waterford. Our work challenges perceptions about dance and disability by creating and presenting work that communicates potent messages of empowerment and identity. Key to the creative processes are the dancers own reflections, their personal challenges and their roles as advocates for human rights and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
“SEVEN”… “Beam me up..!!” The sparky and bright Junior TRACES dancers who will be making their stage debut will join TRACES Dance Ensemble.
“SIX”… TRACES is a creative dance workshop programme for adults and young people with Down syndrome initiated by Artistic Director Libby Seward in 2002.
The TRACES workshop programme is based on the ethos of co authorship, engendering pride in achievement, group identity and collaborative creativity. Creative dance is expressive, sociable and improves coordination and concentration all while having fun too!
The performance group TRACES Dance Ensemble grew out of this programme and has presented numerous successful original performance and film projects. The dancers represented Ireland at two World Down Syndrome Congresses, they have performed for President Michael D Higgins and have contributed to three Irish Youth Dance Festivals.
“FIVE”… TRACES Artistic Director, Libby Seward’s work advocates equal opportunities, respect and tolerance in the arts and wider community and recognizes the value of the arts in health and wellbeing. She fosters a progressive and inclusive approach to promoting arts participation through dance practice, participation, production, performance and critical evaluation. She demonstrates a long-term commitment to making dance a visible and accessible art form.
Her pioneering work with TRACES in partnership with Down Syndrome Ireland is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland through the Dance Artist Residency Scheme. Her reputation and expertise in this specialist area has grown since 2002 advancing awareness of Down syndrome locally, nationally and internationally through the language of dance.
“FOUR”… Key to the creation of “Out of this World!” is artistic collaboration. To date TRACES productions have attracted impressive creative teams and this adventure is no exception.
“THREE”… TRACES acknowledges the support of The Arts Council of Ireland, Waterford City and County Council, Waterford and South Kilkenny Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland and Garter Lane Arts Centre.
