OutStraight Dublin

By Lewis Kenny

description

"Now the language of streets echoes that of the lay
The broken-hearted
The sick and the mad
And the best of the bright who went too far astray
Sometimes shores apart, looking for a fresh start
But to tell you the truth, of some of my closest friends in youth
Have now become just driftwood,
slowly burning in the ashtray"

Hello everyone!

We are OutStraight, a collective performance poets and graffiti artists celebrating urban art and life everywhere we go.

For the last three and half years, We've been painting pictures & performing poetry all across Ireland and the UK. It has always been our dream to release a book of poems and artwork and with all your help, we hope to make that dream a reality.

The theme of the poems and artowrk to go into the book will draw on urban experience and youth culture, bringing to light social and economic situations that the working class youth of today face, such as gentrification, unemployment, the housing crisis, emigration and drug culture.

OutStraight has been performing for the last two years and have performed at many festivals including Body & Soul, Life, KnockanStockan, Electric Picnic, as well as being featured performers at Latitude festival in Suffolk where BBC Radio 1 described OutStraight as 'completely original and a highlight of the weekend'.

'...They're brilliant.' - The Irish Times

'The concept show 'OutStraight' takes in everything from skagged out MDMA session victims and urban gentrification, right up to the importance of cherishing your ma.' - Rabble.

For years it has always been our dream to release a book of our work. We plan to put on fundraising nights and continue to perform to raise the neccesary funds. In the past in the past we have run successful social media campaigns that have had massive reach, so will aim to do the same again for this project.

There are no potential risks to the project that we can forsee at this moment that would set it back. We expect we should have the backing of both the Irish poetry community and the governing body Poetry Ireland, as well as the street art community, both of which we have built a strong bond with and a reputation of hard work and professionalism.

Thank you everyone for pledging your support to this project, we are fully committed to making this a reality and to the highest standard it can possibly reach. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
