Print Block is a studio collective with a difference. In Ireland, there is no access to professional textile print facilities but we are addressing this gap, by establishing a textile printing facility in Dublin with affordable access. We are providing a foothold for furthering and securing young careers, and most importantly, enabling Irish practitioners to practice in Ireland. Our vision for Print Block is to raise the profile of printed textiles in Ireland and provide an important contribution to the Irish cultural landscape and economy.
The next step in fulfilling our vision is to properly equip the studio facility for members and workshop participants. With the right tools, there is no limit to what we can create. An exposure unit is a piece of equipment that is used to create stencils on screens that are then used to print artwork on fabric. This unit will enable us to make more quantities, larger artwork and we can print our new collection!
Print Block needs your support with this. For your generosity, you will receive the very first artwork created with our brand new equipment. All contributions will go directly to the cost of purchasing an exposure unit for the Print Block studio.
Print Block is not-for-profit and is operated voluntarily by us, a group of textile artists and designers who work enthusiastically with a shared vision to develop the Irish textile printing industry. We came together in 2010 and in September 2012 the studio was opened on Cork Street, Dublin 8. Now we offer workshops, masterclasses, open access days and membership to a community of printed textiles practitioners. Print Block design collective is also developing new work: original designs that will form a collection of hand-printed fabrics to be showcased during Design Week 2013 at the RIAI in Merrion Square. See our website, facebook and twitter for more information.
