Safe Haven Voyages and the European Youth in Migration Forum (EYMF) are seeking funding by way of sponsorship for a once in a lifetime opportunity for young people in care and recent care leavers to embark on a youth development journey and summer camp. The young people who will be able to avail of this trip will be Irish and young people in the asylum process in Ireland. The aims of the voyage are: integration, building friendships, personal development and sail training. This is an opportunity for kids in care and kids in the asylum process (and in care) to experience something they normally would not have the resources to access.

The young people who form EYMF decided they wanted to focus on a the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean for their annual summer camp. The young people wanted to find a way to show their solidarity with those seeking a safe haven from the perspective of young people who were already lucky enough to have done so.

Safe Haven Voyages then presented the young people with an opportunity to explore this theme and themes around integration through learning to sail and meeting other young people.

The young people will be given the opportunity to engage with their own experiences and reflections of integration and migration through the medium of film while on the sea. The production of the video and camp will be led by EYMF: a group of young people from all over the world living in Ireland passionate about the welfare of children in migration within Europe. http://www.irishrefugeecouncil.ie/children-and-young-people/eymf

The young people will be provided with all the materials necessary to create their own video while on board. They will then be supported once back on dry land to edit and produce their own video documenting their own experiences with integration and reflections on migration.


The 1200 will go towards the production of the video and the making of the video, which includes getting young people on the boat!

It costs €250 to get one young person to sail and we are looking to get 20 on the training vessel over a 5 day period (so if we raise over the target - we get to involve more young people!). We hope to raise €800 on fund:it to go towards sponsoring young people to sail & the other €400 will go towards the production of the video (editing, dubbing and printing covers and copying the video).
