Shakefest is a celebration of cultural dance and art an inspiring showcase of multicultural and creative talent in Ireland and abroad – it is a 2 day festival who invite all ages to become involved and enjoy in our diverse programme of activities over May 25th and 26th, 2013, which includes camping overnight, arts and culture workshops, interactive activities and world class performances.
Meet Your Committee
Our dedicated committee comprising of myself, (Terri - Canada), Niall (Ireland), Florence (France), Jenni (South Africa), Deirdre (Ireland), Darren (Ireland), Hailuu and Vinnie (South Africa) and Founder Claire Tobin (Ireland) are working diligently this year to help create the most inspiring and diverse collaboration of multicultural inclusion in our 8 years! Shakefest also co-ordinates the event in collaboration with Charleville Castle, our home to Shakefest each year, which is an Independent Culture Centre of the Irish Midlands. Shakefest’s funds also go towards Charleville Castle’s Restoration and Sustainability to support this each year.
An Eclectic Programme of Culture
There is something for everyone at Shakefest! We have an amazing variety of culture workshops ranging from Poi, Hula Hoop, Samba Dance, Irish Dance, Hip Hop and Tibetan Singing Bowls as well as some fantastic Oriental Dance workshops with Mariel Sitka, International Guest Instructor from Argentina for dancers in this type of cultural dance medium.
We also open up the festival to all in the forms of free interactive activites such as communal Drumming, Kids Butterfly Wing Workshops, Interactive Art area, Medieval Village and exciting Re-Enactments of the Hospitallers and Africa Day Celebrations, as well as a much anticipated Dance Competition, fantastic multicultural performances, Fire Show and a Gypsy Kleizmer Band – The Underscore Orkestra from Portland, Oregon!
Why We Need Your Help
Shakefest is focused on both helping to develop Ireland’s local, national and international community through goodwill as many contributors to the event are volunteers, but to also raise funds for much needed site and event costs and performer expenses. It is our grassroots approach to celebration which gives each collaborator an extra special feeling each year for their own piece towards making the magic happen, and you can also be part of making it happen through Fundit support.
We are all volunteering our time for this event but it really means the world to us to create this event in the spirit of unity in diversity. We thank you in advance for your support, express our eternal gratitude and hope to see you on Saturday, May 25th.
