Ships Debut Album Release

By SHIPS

description

We have been working on our first full length album for over a year now. The songs have been evolving along with our sound and we have put to use the great experiences we've had playing live as Ships over the last few years. We write the beginnings of each song together and separately, but come together for the final shaping, mixing and producing. We do all of this in our home studio here in Kimmage with our two roadie cats, Jackson and Frankie.

This vinyl album release will come with some surprises within the gate fold artwork itself and we are hard at work designing with Dave Darcy, from One Strong Arm, to bring the themes of the music alive in the visual representation.

We would also like to put the production of a video out to tender along with this project. The decided videographer will have the remaining budget to work with and we hope to work with someone living and working on our fair isle. With so many talented artists and filmmakers here we want to open the opportunity up to them (albeit with a tiny budget)

We thought long and hard about getting labels involved in the release of the album, but since we don't need any help, in the traditional sense, with the recording process, it made more sense to cut out the middle man and go directly to the people who have been asking for it.

The money raised will cover -
The cost of pressing the vinyl, estimated at €2000
The cost of the special gatefold sleeve, estimated at €500
Art work, design and printing and assembly, estimated at €1500
Vinyl album mastering, estimated at €1000
Video for the first single from the album, €1000

The only challenge we foresee at this point is getting our vinyl pressed in time for the official release date, since there has been such a huge return to this medium. We cannot place the order until the funding is in place, but we are allowing an 8 week turnaround time (our previous experience has delivered in six) so we hope that there will be no delays beyond this.

We are so grateful to anyone who might consider investing in our music We are proud to have been part of the Irish music scene for as long as we have without an album to date and we ' re hopeful that we ' ll finally get it out there

Thank You

With all your support, we made it over the line and more, thank you so much. It took a few weeks for Fund It to gather the funds, giving people time to update their payment methods if they needed to, etc. and after the bank and Fund It fees came out, we have just received the grand total of €5924.80 !!! Which is pretty much bang on what we have budgeted for, incredible :) There is so much we want to share with you, so we'll try to sum it up to give you a picture of the plan afoot! We've begun planning with One Strong Arm to get the plates ordered for the printing press and to work out the man power needed for the hand production of the gatefold sleeves. Their production will take time, but be very worth it. A new energy and curiosity for the album itself has taken hold. We're back working on some extra pieces that we hope will tie it all together, so it will go to master when that's complete. We're also sending a track on to our video maker, who got in touch through the campaign, and he will begin to make the video for the first single from the album. Looking at the calendar and assessing the all tasks at hand, it looks like all our ducks will be in a row by December. However, as legend goes, December can be a tricky time to release an album, so we will heed this legend and wait for a late January, early February release. This brings us the gift of time when it comes to the release party, which most of you, as funders, have purchased tickets to! We have a plan hatching to make that a really special night for all of you, as our way to say thank you for all your support. So we're sure that the timing will all come together as it should. We don't want to be bombarding you with emails and updates, but we will share anything we think you might be interested in along the way. You can find our live happenings on our facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/ShipsABand/ and our offer still stands for you to get copy of our older work as a gift, over on our bandcamp page - https://ships.bandcamp.com/ This will also be the place where you will be downloading your digital album from, when it's released. But you don't have to worry about remembering that, we will be sending you each a personal email about how to retrieve your rewards, once the time comes. Thank you so much from the whole of our hearts and give us a shout if you have any questions. Sorca and Simon xxxx

We did it!

Apologies for the double up on mail with no content, in the excitement, I somehow muted the text! Woah! Something magic just happened. We hit the target. We are over the moon here. Thank you so very much to all of you, your generosity has stunned us and warmed our hearts, in a way we did not anticipate. We are very, very excited to get this record into your hands and ears and you've all just made that possible. Thank you. There are still four days to go and still a chance for anyone who wants the record to get involved, so any funds that come in over the target will be used to make it even better than planned. We both have some ideas up our sleeves. This seems like a good time to let you know that that we will be off the grid on Saturday, when the project officially ends. We have been invited to play at a festival, on the island of Inishturk, where there will be limited to no wifi! There was a chance that the moment would come where we might hit the target, and we wouldn't know.......... and we wouldn't be able to celebrate it with you! So to reach it today is so fantastic, we are so grateful. The next update will about the actual process, the real thing in action, wooohooo!!! Love to all of you, Sorca and Simon xxxx

Our visit to One Strong Arm print and design studio

Hello again, we hope you're having a lovely bank holiday! It's been a lovely one for us between gigging and editing this little video for you, and right now, cat snuggles. We went to see Dave Darcy of One Strong Arm, last Tuesday evening. He's just moved into his new studio off Capel St., in Dublin city centre. He showed us some of the processes that he'll be using, to make the Ships album art work and sleeves. They will be custom made, down to the gatefold itself and he'll be designing original plates to be made for the pressing. Some crafty secrets will lie within the sleeves ✨ Have a look here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlh2zTfPl-4 With just a week to go, we are almost funded and we've been stunned by the generosity and warm wishes. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who have helped us to get this far. We had a lot of fun making this video for you with a camera phone and a not so steady, but enthusiastic arm :) Much love to all of you and hopefully this week will see us all over the line! Sorca and Simon xxx

Sunday Greetings!

Hello there, We're getting our Bandcamp site ready here, to deliver the album to you digitally, if the Fund It succeeds, and we've decided to give you a little gift, as a small way to say thank you for all your support so far. We'd like to give you our first four singles! https://ships.bandcamp.com/ You can get them at the link above, along with some information about each track. We'll be playing down at the Beatyard in Dun Laoghaire, next Sunday on the main stage around 3pm. If you want to come down and check out our set, it will be mostly tracks from the album ✨ http://www.the-beatyard.com/ We've a date with Dave Darcy of One Strong Arm on Tuesday, to have a look at the process he'll be using to make our vinyl covers. I (Sorca) am going to attempt to film it for you and share it with you next week! Talk to you then, Love, Sorca and Simon xxx

We're half way in time.......

And over half way in funding!!! We're almost 60% funded and we are so, so, very grateful to everyone who's invested in this album so far. Something we've been asked that we wanted to share with you; Some folks have asked, is it more help to fund us by ticking the "I do not need a reward button" and the answer is, no! We want you all to have the music in your hands at the end of this project. It's the album content itself that brought us down this funding journey with you. Take the album, it's yours, you're part of it's very release :) Our planned visit to our lovely designer Dave Darcy, of One Strong Arm, had to be postponed until the 26th of July (next Tuesday) as the man and his entire operation, giant printers and all, have moved studio. Woah! His new space is looking incredible and we're gong to make a little video for you, to give you a glimpse of the processes he'll be using to print the gatefold sleeves for the vinyl. If you are an artist, designer or creative yourself, Dave's got some studio-desk spaces available for rent there. Check out his page here for details and some pictures of the new spot. We're excited to go see the process ourselves next week. https://www.facebook.com/OneStrongArm/ Lastly, we want to thank you all again for your generosity. We're not all the way there yet and we'll need to keep sharing and telling people. So if you've funded already and really want to get the music in your hands, spread the word in whatever way works for you, keep telling people. We'll get there! All our love, Sorca and Simon xxxx

Whuuuuut?

Hey you guys, We logged in here today to say hello and give you a little update, but we've had our jaws on the floor for the last few minutes....... Ok, now that we've picked them up, our hearts are starting to swell, we're almost half way funded with 27 days still to go, 48% to be exact. We cannot get over the generosity you have shown us. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far. So now that we're on the way, the next step of our plan is to put the video out to tender and we want to invite you and any future funders, to pass this on to any directors/videographers you know or like, who might be interested in taking the video budget and making a video for a song off the album. There is a lot of talent on this island, so we're hoping someone here might like the job! Our lovely designer Dave Darcy kindly gave us an image from the ideas board to make the video below, so we could share an album track with you now, but as you can see, it's just the track really, and if someone has their autoplay on, on youtube, the next video the comes up is a video about ships, literally ships, boats and other nautical themes. It's time to get something of our own to add to the list so you can have at least two Ships (the band) songs to play before you have to switch it off! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooxTfThE3ZI Interested parties can contact us at shipstoshore@gmail.com The video will be for another album track, yet to be decided. We can't wait to hear from you. Keep sharing the Fund It page if you haven't already, as every day it seems to be reaching more and more people. It's already looking like an achievable goal so we're confident over the next 27 days we'll make it. Thank you so much again, we'll be back with another update in the coming days. A visit to the One Strong Arm print studio is next on the agenda, so we'll have more to share then. Big love from both of us, Sorca and Simon xxx
