What’s the BIG IDEA?
SHOW is a small theatre festival with BIG ambitions! In the depth of winter, Cork’s vibrant emergent theatre community, which TDC has helped to nurture, will come together to present a festival of new work.
· 1 space (Theatre Development Centre @ Triskel, Cork)
· 7 days (24 – 30 November, 2014)
· 15 companies/artists (showing a combo of full productions and works in progress)
Who are we?
We are TDC (Theatre Development Centre). TDC at Triskel was set up by Corcadorca in 2011. Managed by the company, it is guided by a voluntary steering committee of local experts in all things theatre. The wider TDC network are a group of theatre practitioners and interested parties committed to producing work of a professional standard in Cork.
Year round, the TDC space is given free of charge to artists and practitioners for residencies to develop and create new work. Each residency ends on a Friday with an open sharing of this work and audience feedback. Since we set it up, TDC has supported over 100 development projects and has become a vital hub for Cork’s theatre community, as a place to gather, make, play, talk, share, develop and support each other.
The companies and artists involved in this year’s SHOW are: BrokenCrow, Dominic Moore, JustMadeIt Productions, Leslie Burton, Ita Morrissey, Conflicted, Timothy O’Mahony, Painted Bird Productions, Ruth Hayes/Claire Loy, Laura O’Mahony, Terry Dineen and Richie Clare.
What’s the plan?
The plan is: SHOW as much work from the selected artists, in one week and one space, as possible!
SHOW is a natural and necessary progression for the artists working out of TDC and for the work they are creating – it is the next stage in development. It is an opportunity for artists to fully realise their projects and engage with a wider audience, while also offering artists the platform to share work in progress. SHOW will offer audiences the possibility to see several works in the same space in a single day. SHOW will offer artists the opportunity to have their work seen by festival and venue managers with a view to generating further professional engagements for the artists involved.
Why do we need your help?
TDC operates without any direct funding, and effectively runs on in-kind support from Corcadorca, Triskel, Cork City Council, the steering committee and the energy and creativity of the artists who work there. To stage this festival, this SHOW, we need to try to raise a small budget of €3,000 to cover some of the following costs:
· Graphic Design for promotional materials
· Print and Distribution costs for posters/flyers
· Fee for PR/Marketing
· Production Manager Fee
· Photographer/Videographer Fee
The funds we hope to raise, through your generosity and support, would contribute to the successful presentation of the work almost 50 of Cork’s finest theatre professionals.
