The Bells Of

By Bez Kinte

'The Bells Of' is a new play written by Barry McEvoy and directed by Louisa Sanfey making its debut in Theatre Upstairs, from Nov 10th - 21st. Witty, dark and thought-provoking, this ambitious script ticks all of the boxes – now we just need your help to stage it!

The production will be staged in association with Theatre Upstairs and Bez Kinte theatre company by a creative team of recent graduates from renowned institutions such as the Lir and NUIG. Supporting this production will allow these emerging artists to explore new, innovative ideas and bring their fresh energy to Irish theatre.

Bez Kinte is a collective group of international artists co-founded by Louisa Sanfey - the director of the production – set up with the goal of making work that is ambitious & honest. Before co-founding Bez Kinte Louisa graduated from the Lir MFA in Directing programme. 'The Bells Of' will be the company's first official project.

About the play
"I can live with being blind. But I can no longer hold my tongue."

In small-town America, the dream has gone horribly wrong. Old men build bombs while blind children sing requiems to the dead. One young woman is trying to make a difference, but an uneasy alliance with a sweepstakes enthusiast threatens to turn violent. Is there room for faith, hope and charity in a world where even toy factories are no place for the innocent?

We are delighted to have the opportunity to stage 'The Bells Of' and Theatre Upstairs has given us an excellent platform by providing us with the venue. Now we just need an extra hand to make the production as dynamic and exciting as possible.
The money raised will go towards set, lighting, costumes, rehearsals and all of the ingredients that go into making theatrical magic. 'The Bells Of' is an extremely ambitious text and we want to ensure that it receives the best production possible.

We hope that you will lend us a hand in staging this exciting new play and help us develop & grow as artists. We would urge you to spread the word and help us bring this thrilling and original play to Dublin.

See you in November!
