What is The Big Chiseller?
The Schoolhouse for Art (S4A) presents The Big Chiseller, the inaugural National Wood Sculpting Festival being held in Enniskerry Village, October 11th-13th 2019...
...in other words we're #REWILDING ENNISKERRY :)
The Big Chiseller is a Wood Sculpting Festival celebrating the magnificence and uniqueness of this masterful art form!
Over this captivating 3-Day festival, our Headliner Sculptors will transform salvaged deadwood trees located around Enniskerry Village, into iconic, monumental sculptures using chainsaw & chisel. In addition, Artists/Sculptors will gather under the Schoolhouse for Art canopy, and other key locations throughout the village, to demonstrate their woodcarving skills and showcase their work!
Our concept of #Rewilding will inform various ancillary activities including; exhibitions, lectures, participatory events, family-friendly workshops, craft market and more!
The Big Chiseller Festival will enhance our community's sense of place and will offer all visitors a visual, environmental and culturally significant experience. The inaugural festival will support the greater vision of developing Enniskerry as an art-tourism hub, through the establishment of a Wood Sculpture Trail that supports the movement of visitors through the village and the surrounding area.
By using in-situ and located naturally felled trees our Festival will support a wider environmental and biodiversity enhancing brief. The area has a rich forested, natural & mountainous topography lending well to such an event. We see The Big Chiseller becoming a key event on the international wood sculpting festival calendar.
Meet The Big Chiseller Team!
The Big Chiseller team have a balanced skill base and vast working experience in ensuring the success of the proposed festival. We have financial, management, administrative, communications and event delivery know-how, experience and proven track record. Lorna is our Festival Director, Meabh is the Admin backbone, Nadia is head of Communications, Paul & Con are our Artist/Sculptor liaisons, while Neil (Schoolhouse for Art) is our Team 'Bainisteoir'.
We have an enthusiastic and community-driven team that see the benefits of The Big Chiseller for sculptors, the community, local heritage and the national and international visitor. However, our festival needs broader support to supplement the funding we have already achieved.
LET'S TALK FIGURES
We have calculated costs in the region of €50,000.
Part-funding (€12,500) towards the Festival costs was awarded by County Wicklow Partnership under the LEADER programme, and the Schoolhouse for Art was required to match that funding (€12,500), which we have done. We have also secured generous sponsorships to cover the cost of wood, haulage and insurance (€8,000).
As this is a FREE admission, not-for-profit event we need YOUR HELP to fund the remaining balance of €17,000.
Your donations will go towards Sculptors' fees & related expenses.
Importantly, if we don't reach our Fund it target, we won't receive ANY of your generously pledged donations - so fingers crossed!
Thank you for 'chipping' in - You give greater worth to Artists, Sculptors & Innovators who contribute to our communal heritage and sense of being.
