The Brewery Project are Ita Morrissey, Liselott Olofsson & Darragh Byrne. We are a Kilkenny based arts collective, together we are a theatre maker, ceramic artist and videographer. We have come together because we recognise a need for a creative community celebration to mark the rich history of Smithwick's brewery in light of it's closure. Smithwick's Brewery has operated in the heart of Kilkenny for over 300 years and has played a huge role in the lives of so many.
This change and this history deserves to be marked. This project will be one of creative community collaboration, where the stories of the community are held up for a 'toast' through creative expressions of film making, art and theatre.
This project is a large scale event, scheduled for Autumn 2014, it will consist of the screening of the documentary - 'A Scent of Barley', an exhibition of new work by ceramic artist Liselott Olofsson and an original piece of site specific theatre by Ita Morrissey. There are many people involved in the entire process from musicians, actors, designers and storytellers who will all contribute towards different areas of this event.
Community collaboration is central to The Brewery Project and that is one of the reasons why we need your help. We were awarded the Artlinks Collaborations bursary but due to the scale and significance of this project we need your help to make it better. The money from any of the rewards purchased will go directly towards staging the exhibition and theatre production, covering costs such as costumes, equipment and materials and venue hire.
The Brewery Project is a unique opportunity to mark this important moment in Kilkenny's history and we need you to make it happen! Thank you.
