The Circus of Lir

By Galway Community Circus

Galway Community Circus and Fidget Feet present:

The Circus of Lir

Following from their sold-out shows last year, Ireland's premiere youth circus, Galway Community Circus is continuing its successful collaboration with Ireland’s foremost Aerial Dance Theatre Company Fidget Feet for this contemporary circus spectacle. Combining gravity defying aerial dance, daring vertical dance on harnesses and stunning visual images through video projections, this is a show not to be missed.

The Circus of Lir is a show created and performed by approximately 150 young Galway Community Circus members between 5-20 years of age with the support of the Arts Council Young Ensemble Scheme, Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, Fanzini Brothers and internationally renowed storyteller Clare Murphy. Intensive rehearsals for the show started in December 2012 and the performances will take place in the Black Box Theatre, Galway on 15th & 16th February 2013.

Galway Community Circus is a charitable organisation built on fun, innovation and a commitment to inspire and empower people through circus arts. Since 2002, they have been at the forefront of teaching circus arts to young people helping them to discover and develop their talents, and in some cases, laying the foundation for a lifelong vocation.

Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre is Ireland’s foremost Aerial Dance Theatre Company based in Co. Westmeath. They have become renowned internationally as a creative organisation that stretches the boundaries between several arts forms, combining aerial skills with contemporary circus and creating theatre fused with aerial dance, music and video art, making contemporary circus and aerial dance accessible.

The €2,500 we are looking for will be used towards essential production costs such as equipment, materials, costumes and rent of the training hall. Please help us make this show possible by donating and spreading the word. We need your help to make this show a reality!

Yipeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all so much for helping us reach our target by donating and by spreading the word about our project. We are thrilled and very grateful! We have three 24 more days until the show now. The rehearsals are going very well and the show is starting to take shape. The young people are training hard (but always with a smile!) and we know they will do a fantastic job. We can't wait! Thank you again for your support!

Rehearsals have begun

Rehearsals are well underway for our next big youth circus show The Circus of Lir performed in the Black Box Theatre on 15-16 February. So far we've flown on stilts in the air, learned clown ballet with Con Fanzini, practiced the art of storytelling with Clare Murphy and played fairies and elves with Chantal and Lee. We have the posters printed and costumes nearly sorted. Even though we're at early days in our journey I have a feeling the show will surprise you all. A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us to date!
