The Irish House: A Psychogeographical Map is an artist publication launching in February in Waterford City Library. The publication charts my journey after eleven years of absence through my grandparent ' s old house and drapery shop in Callan Co Kilkenny. Situated on Bridge Street the Medieval street of the town the building is more than two hundred years old and slowly collapsing into decay. Within the publication I travel through the myriad of crumbling rooms drawing on Guy Debord ' s psychogeography and Bachelard ' s ' The Poetics of Space '. Psychogeography is ' the study of the specific effects of the geographical environment consciously or not on the emotions or behaviours of the individual '. Bachelard ' s ' The Poetics of Space ' speaks of the intimate spaces of our lives and how we react to or recall them. I hope to receive funds to launch and print copies of The Irish House: A Psychogeographical Map which uncovers my personal and imaginative connection to this interior. This project ' s partially funded by Artlinks, but I need your support to complete the publication. See my website for Reward images and more details.
I am a visual artist and writer. Since finishing my MA in 2013, I have held art administration positions in galleries such as Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Pallas Projects/ Studios. I have worked as a curator on art projects including Skeeze(2016) at Temple Bar Gallery Dublin and Heckles(2015) at Tactic Gallery Cork. I did a residency at Callan Workhouse Union(2017) to research for this publication. I have had a solo live-art performance A Lifeless Rib(2016) and a solo exhibition as a Chinese jar(2015). I have received the Artlinks (Waterford County Council) Bursary(2016 & 2017) The Kennedy Wilson NCAD Clancy Quay Studio Award(2016) and the Arts and Disability Connect Training Grant(2015). My poetry and essays have been published since 2009.
I feel Fund It is the appropriate way to partially fund the printing and launch of my publication as it'll raise interest in the project and is a means of disseminate the publication itself. I've funding from Artlinks ( Waterford Co Co ) which will fund just under half of the project If the Fund is successful I ' ll be able to produce my publication and distribute it to a wider audience
My Project Budget: Printing 120 copies of the publication €550; Hand binding 120 copies of the publication €540; Launch posters €34; rubber stamp for the publication cover €20; Refreshments at launch €50 Towards payment of Fund It & Bank charges €56 = €1,200 (€500 funded by Artlinks)
Possible challenges to complete my project:
1. Difficulties with the printing and binding - I can carefully give instructions to the printer and binder in person.
2. Difficulty with getting the public to come to the launch - I can overcome this by effectively marketing on on-line social media.
Thank you for checking out or supporting my project.
