The Joinery.

By The Joinery

description

This is the Joinery, a not for profit, DIY art space that opened in 2008 in Stoneybatter, Dublin. The Joinery has been facilitating, programming and curating art and music events for the past five years. The Joinery is ultimately a site for experimentation – for making, exhibiting, performing and discussing. The programme consists of a non-stop, year-round schedule of events and has, over the years, included the works of some truly innovative artists and musicians. There are some extraordinary things happening in music and art in this city and the Joinery is determined to continue supporting this. There are on average seventy events a year at the Joinery and the space is and continues to be, entirely run and staffed by unpaid volunteers.

As many of you whom we have worked with over the years will know, we operate on an absolute shoestring – so many people have donated their time and talent to keep the Joinery alive and kicking. We are not a regularly funded organisation; we have survived predominantly by being self-sufficient and with some small funding from Dublin City Council and sporadic funding from the Arts Council.

Our ambition is to see the Joinery continue as an uncompromising art space in this city and this Fund it campaign will help us enact our most challenging and engaging programme to date. This programme, which will have an emphasis on event-based works including performances, screenings, exhibitions, talks and new music, will involve a network of highly ambitious and professional artists, curators, performers, musicians, writers and thinkers. The Joinery's 2013 programme aims to build upon our reputation as one of Dublin's most eclectic art spaces; a place that many exceptional musicians and artists now view as a second home. This programme strand will continue to support artists; providing a critical platform for both artist and audience. This Fund it campaign will also enable us to support emerging artists as part of the ongoing graduate programme, offer a second year of residencies and further expand a distinctive programme of new music by pioneering musicians from both here and abroad.

The money raised with this Fundit campaign will also give the Joinery the time to seek solutions regarding its future as an independent, sustainable art space. We need your support to make 2013 and beyond happen at the Joinery.

Thank you for your continued support and much valued input. Please spread the word and contribute in whatever way you can.

Thank you!
Miranda and Feargal.

The Joinery Fundit compilation launch party

Dear funders, Thank you again for your continued support of the Joinery. We are nearing the release of our compilation CD of live recordings produced since our Fundit campaign. Those of you who funded €10 will receive a download code for the digital release and those who funded €20 or more will receive a copy of the physical release as well as a a download code. We are very happy with the CD and very much indebted to all the artists involved and to Cian McKenna and Clare Bell for their design work. Despite the increasing ephemerality of the CD as a format, we have endeavoured to produce a satisfying and cohesive artefact to do justice to the musicians featured and to you, without whom these recordings would not exist. There are several options for receiving your copy of the compilation. We will be having a launch event for the CD in the Joinery on the 20th of September during which copies of it will be available for collection. The doors will be open from 6-10pm, please drop in to say hi and pick up your CD. Otherwise, you can collect your CD at any of our events, or arrange to drop in at a time that is convenient for you. If you wish it to be posted to you, please email your postal address to thejoinery@gmail.com with "Fundit compilation" as the subject line. We very much appreciate the kindness you have shown towards the Joinery and wish to once again thank you for enabling us to programme what we believe has been an exceptional year with highlights too numerous to mention. Thank you. The Joinery https://www.facebook.com/events/1525536061012904/

Update

Thank you all again for helping to fund the Joinery’s 2013 programme. We are now coming to a close for Christmas and are looking back on a fantastic year of performances and exhibitions from some remarkable artists, performers and musicians from Ireland and further afield. This was all made possible by the Fundit campaign. It has also given us time to reflect on the work of the last six years and to consider ways to make this venture become more sustainable. We look forward to continuing to bring new and experimental work to Arbour Hill for the foreseeable future. We are currently collating the recordings we have been making all year and plans are under way to have the Fundit CDR / download ready by Feburary 2014. We will be in touch closer to the time. So again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you in 2014.

Thanks & Rewards

First and foremost, thank you all so much once again for contributing to our campaign and helping to keep the Joinery alive. We are currently in the midst of programming for the summer months and there are some great events in the pipeline. Those of you who chose guestlist spots as your reward may now redeem these at our live music events, just mention it on the door. Very occasionally, an event will be exempt from this, but we will post this information on the facebook event page and on our website in advance to let people know. If you are due a Skinny Wolves record either drop us an email or let us know at an event and we can pass it on. We have been steadily building up our audio archive of 2013 performances and are aiming to have it ready by the end of the year. We will occasionally be posting snippets here https://soundcloud.com/thejoinery Thanks again.

Thank you

SW update

Just in case there's any confusion, the €30 pledge gets you the lp plus all the other usual goodies for a €30 pledge. Apologies for the confusion!

Home stretch.. Skinny Wolves lps thrown into the mix!

We are nearly there now.. thanks so much to everyone who has pledged, shared, tweeted and supported so far. So just a few days left. The good lads at Skinny Wolves have kindly donated a number of vinyl lps from the likes of Somadrone, Cap pas Cap and Indian Jewellery to add to anyone who pledges €30 or more from here on in. Just tweet "I funded @theJoineryD7 & I love @SkinnyWolves " after you have pledged. Thanks all xx
