THE MART - Help Turn the Lights on !

After 6 years of successful national and international exhibitions MART (www.mart.ie) is setting up a new visual arts depo - THE MART in Rathmines, Dublin. Fresh from north american and european tours, the next endeavour is the creation of “THE MART” - a multi-gallery, art shop, studio and workshop space housed in the iconic old fire station.

We need your support to pay for the electrics & fire certificate! Every donation will support our new space, specifically installing full electrics and emergency lighting system. THE MART will engage our 150+ artists, local communities, national and international artists and curators. It will also be home to MIAEN - Mart’s International Arts Exchange Network which will offer professional development for artists and curators from around the world to come and curate an exhibition in Dublin with local artists. It will provide studio space and offer comprehensive curatorial and art programs. This Network will introduce Dublin audiences to exceptional international artistic practices.

The fire station was previously occupied by the Dublin Civil Defence and Dublin Fire Brigade for years and we wish to bring this amazing building back to life. THE MART will be a gathering of like minded people, an open sphere where visions convene and artistic endeavours are conducted and collide!

With a base MART can provide Dublin artists with equipment and technical support for exhibitions. MART will also act as a Curatorial Service provider, where Artists can call upon curators advice, help and services to create their show.

During 2012/13 THE MART will be home to 10 art studios, domestic art exhibitions, workshop and facilitate 5 curated shows which will see global curators and art initiatives connecting with local artists.

The Artists & Curators involved in MART are highly skilled educational, technical and artistic expertise; the curators and artists hold Masters & PHDs in Art. MART’s activities will impact an international artistic flare to Dublin’s city & Rathmine’s Cultural life.

About MART:

MART was set up in 2006 by Ciara Scanlan and Matthew Nevin as an arts organisation whose primary aim is to create a platform for New Media, Installation, Sculpture, Experimental Film, and Performance artists to showcase their work and provide an Art resource that is accessible, interesting and enjoyable to the public. MART is home to Ireland's largest Contemporary online Visual Art Gallery.

MART was founded on an inclusive ethos, which aims to break down boundaries in the Visual Arts through its ability to inspire a curiosity for knowledge and education through art. We want to bring contemporary art to the forefront of culture by actively engaging people from all sectors of society in both its viewing and production.

MART has supported the work of over 300 artists and reached over 1 million people through its extensive press portfolio and an audience of over 30,000 over several exhibitions across Galway, Limerick and Dublin in Ireland, London in the UK and several cities across central and eastern Europe and most recently in North America as part of Imagine Ireland.

We have reached our target!!! Thanks so much to everyone so far who has funded. it would be great to keep pushing the project for the final two days to try to cover some of the construction costs! Be sure to check out the pics of the place on our facebook : http://goo.gl/OcYW3

Just over 2 days to go!!!

Good News: our amount has been fixed... So we have another €250 to raise in just over 2 days!! Spread the word!!!! Tell all your friends!! Remember: Artists who donate will be part of a group show in 2013! We were also featured in the Metro yesterday!! : http://goo.gl/mloIT Thanks to all the new funders!!! You are all stars!!

just a quick note to say that the current raised amount isnt correct, someone put in 1000 instead of 100 ! which will be fixed later tonight..... so we still need to raise 500euro in the next 4 days! eeek ! spread the word!! We had the electrician in recently and its going to cost about 4,500 to full equip the place, so the more we raise the more we can do, as the construction is going to cost about 5k too... http://www.fundit.ie/project/the-mart-help-turn-the-lights-on Have you check out the pics of the space ? Check out http://goo.gl/OcYW3 We just had our first booking for the gallery which is VERY exciting! and thank you to all the new funders who have supported us :) We will be in touch soon :)

If you can promote the Fund it page on all your social networks and email lists that will help lots http://www.fundit.ie/my/project_manage/the-mart-help-turn-the-lights-on Thanks again to everyone who has supported us!!! :) We are receiving lots of emails and calls with huge interest in the space ! So we know its going to be an exciting new hub for Dublin & Ireland. :) :) :)

Half way!

A bit thank you to everyone who has helped fund and promote the project so far! We have just released a second promo video : Ciara spots something.... https://vimeo.com/48378784 We had an architectural photographer in this week taking photographs, he is going to document the progress of the refurb over the next few months which is exciting, and will end with a book or exhibition of the photographs ! We will post some of these on our facebook and http://www.mart.ie/the-mart We also went around Rathmines introducing ourselves and had a great response from the locals! We have 13days to go, just a bit over the half way mark and we are a bit under half way of our target... so we still need to push to get the word out to get to our target! If we don't reach our target we won't get any of it! We are dealing with some great Architects who are looking at helping us out to sort the fire certificate! Once that is sorted we aim to have the building open by November! Thanks again everyone :) xxx

You Tube!

We had a few requests so we have posted our Fund It video on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k1FYYhe_Mo

Pigeons 0 - MART 2

We are so excited! 1 week in and we are nearly a third of the way to our target.... A HUGE Thank you to everyone who has supported so far! We have been approached by a few more MART artists who have donated work so that is really exciting, so all of you who are due to get one of the original artworks we will email you at the end of the project with a wish list of what specific art form/medium you would like and we will try our best fulfill your wish :) We had a huge clean up in the space yesterday, you can see some pics on our facebook page :https://www.facebook.com/MARTgroup or directly here : http://goo.gl/1F4eb and http://goo.gl/jDfyx Lots of rubble was bagged and we had some great free labour from some strong and mighty artists :) Matthew did a fun interview for NCAD's Art in the Contemporary World blog : http://www.acw.ie/2012/08/the-mart-help-turn-the-lights-on/ - a further insight to the project and MART :) Thanks again to all who have helped.... lets hope the ball keeps rolling!
