The Piper and the Faerie Queen CD

By Camerata Kilkenny

description

We just need to raise €2000 to get us over the line. We have already secured almost all the funding required for this project with support from Kilkenny and Waterford County Councils, the Creative Ireland Programme, individual donors, business donors and RTE Lyric FM.

Following acclaimed performances of 'The Piper and the Faerie Queen' throughout Ireland, Camerata Kilkenny & David Power wish to bring The Piper and the Faerie Queen to a wider international audience so they too can hear how beautifully the Irish traditional music and classical music combine with each other and how closely they are linked. Telemann's Suite 'La Musette' (French bagpipes) is inspired by European folk dances and of course his Gulliver Suite encapsulates the humour and fantasy of the great Jonathan Swift (who lived and was educated in Kilkenny). Already Camerata Kilkenny has been asked to perform at major festivals in Germany, Belgium and Finland in 2018, as well as at the Galway Early Music Festival next May.

Total Mastertape Costs: €13,781
Total Manufacturing Costs: €5,627
Direct Cost/Promotion: €10,090
TOTAL: €30,498

The members of Camerata Kilkenny (Maya Homburger, Claire Duff, Marja Gaynor, Sarah McMahon, Barry Guy, Malcolm Proud) are all world renowned musicians who have performed and recorded with leading international early music ensembles including English Baroque Soloists, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Academy of Ancient Music to name but a few. David Power is a master of the Uilleann pipers, much in demand both at home and abroad as a solo performer and in collaboration with other leading traditional musicians including Martin Hayes. 'A breathtaking freshness... his fluid, fluent playing as light as a feather'.

If we reach our Fund it target we are 100% secure for completing our project.

The members of Camerata Kilkenny and David Power greatly appreciate support for this very exciting and unique project featuring classical and Irish traditional music. With the recent acknowledgement by UNESCO of the cultural importance of the Uilleann Pipes, we expect huge interest from around the world in this recording.
