Gypsy Vanner

By Maeve McGrath

"Gypsy Vanner" is a short film that looks at the return of Francie Vaughan back to his halting site in Limerick after a tragic event at a fair. This is the story of the fallout from this unexpected start to his married life. When his young bride returns to the halting site they struggle to deal with the anger and disappointment they both feel. This is a film that looks at loss, love and traveller tradition.

SIDHE FILM is a production company based in Limerick.and we have a fantastic cast and crew waiting in the wings to film in the stunning scenery of the Ballyhoura Region.

This film has been a labour of love for writer and producer Maeve McGrath for many years. She was keen to film in the Ballyhoura Region to showcase the natural beauty of the region. Maeve has worked in television and film as an actor and producer working with RTE, BBC, ITV, TG4 and independent companies.

"Gypsy Vanner" also sees the first time collaboration of Sidhe Film with independent Producer/Director Colm Higgins. Colm's portfolio of work includes producing credits in both independent film and documentary projects, most recently on the planned 'Who Needs Enemies?' TV series. He is the current Administration Manager of the Fingal Film Festival as well as being a former founding member of web video production company 'Tree Light Pictures'. "Vanner" will be Colm's debut in the director's chair.

Producer/Director: Colm Higgins.
Director of Photography: David Qualter

Cast: Aidan Crowe
Emma O'Grady
Margie Nagle

We are fortunate to have secured some funding to film "Gypsy Vanner" but it is in post production that we will really need your support to finish this short film. Your support will go towards the sound edit, music score, picture grading and the online edit and getting this poignant story to the screen.

We are grateful for any small support to showcase this short film. Your support will help to bring this moving story to life and encourage the creation of jobs in film. This is a short film we believe in and we are looking forward to sharing that energy with you.

Thank you.

Over the half-way point!!

Dear Fund:it supporters, friends and family, We have passed the half-way mark in our project and we have already reached 35% of our total. It is hard to put into words how overwhelmed we are by the support we have had so far. That moment when you see that someone has taken the time to pledge to our project is not something you can put into words. THANK YOU so much. On a beautiful Friday morning at the end of May we started to shoot "Gypsy Vanner" and the weather remained glorious for the three days before dulling a little on the last day. Considering nearly all our shots were outdoors we feel the Gods of filming were looking down on us that weekend!! With a cast and crew of up to fifteen people we worked overtime to film this story in the gorgeous Ballyhoura Countryside. We have behind the scenes photos on our Facebook page! And now, all the footage is logged and awaiting the edit. And this is why we had to run this Fund:it campaign. Your support will complete this film. Your support will ensure that the film will showcase the Irish countryside, tell a traditional story and showcase the talents of an amazing cast and crew. "Gypsy Vanner" will have a viewing across the world and it is your support that has contributed to that and we are very grateful. So now, as we head into the last few weeks of our Fund:it we thank everyone who has shared, emailed and tweeted about "Gypsy Vanner". All the people who have offered help with all aspects of our project from providing caravans to behind the scenes work on admin. Without your help this would not have happened and we are fully aware of that. We still have a goal to meet and if we do not reach our target “Gypsy Vanner” will not be funded so if you can spread the word and share our project with your friends and family we would appreciate it. Míle Buíochas All of us at Sidhe Film.
