Who are the North West Clare Writers and what is our project?
The North West Clare Writers Circle is led by Breda Shanonn, a creative writing teacher from Corofin. She has taught all over Clare and has been involved in local writers groups. Our co-editor Cindy Griffin runs a bookshop in Doolin and has worked with the Doolin Writers Festival. Our secretary Maura Egan is from Doonbeg , our project manager Felicity Burke is from Kilnamona, our treasurer Mary Farren from Kilrush and public relations officer Josie O'Connor from Ennistymon. All excellent writers hoping to share their writing with you!
We sent out a submissions’ call to Clare based writers, and we now have over thirty selected excellent contributions from writers all over Clare. Some of the contributors are previously published, award-winning writers ( PJ Curtis, Knute Skinner, Elizabeth Reapy, Jean Kavanagh, Donal Minihane, Karen McDonnell) We are publishing a book of the collected writing called 'Walk With Me.'
What are we crowd - funding for?
If we reach our goal, we can pay printing and editing costs ( 3,000 euro or more. ) of our book 'Walk With Me'. The book launch (covid permiting) and promotion of sales may cost up to 500 euro. We will be paying for postage and envelopes for books to be posted.
We have sourced local business sponsors and Clare FM will promote the project, our facebook page will be updated with videoreadings of excerpts from the book so you can see how good it is!
We will not be able to rely solely on selling book in local book shops or at our book launch due to the uncertainty of covid 19 restrictions. With crowdfunding we can offer multiple rewards on a recognised platform- we have no e-commerce website and are not taking payment ourselves so we want to sell our book and raise funds for Clare Haven as easily as possible!
How will I get my reward?
We will be in touch via email after November 9th! See rewards for details for pick up and postage dates.
Where are the profits going and why?
We hope to donate a considerable profit from this campaign and all book sales of 'Walk With Me' of at least €500 to Clare Haven Charity. As none of us were on the 'frontline' or considered essential workers, we decided to find a way, through our writing, to benefit a group in society, more adversely impacted upon by lockdown. We chose Clare Haven, an organisation that supports families affected by domestic violence, as a worthy and deserving cause.
We sincerely hope to be able to share our wonderful anthology of writing with you, and even more to be able to donate to such a worthy cause as the Clare Haven charity. We truly hope our effort will create a ripple effect of creativity and kindness!

We would like to let you all know that we recently handed over a cheque for €5,000 euro to Clare Haven Services.
The representative assured us that the money would go to great use - possibly toward the communal sitting room that mothers share after bedtime and the playground outside.
Many of us are spending Christmas away from our loved ones, there is heartbreak all over the world. We hope that this small message of good news that YOU have helped to make happen brings a glimmer of hope to you in bleak times.
We sincerely hope that each and every one of you has a safe and peaceful Christmas.
