We make gods and do battle with them and then they bless us – Herman Hesse

We need to create a new mythology, a new pantheon of gods born of the modern world: Technology, Career, Exercise Regimes, Organic Food, Internet, amongst others. In this show we are going to manifest these contemporary gods in all their glory! The heroine of our story will battle each one in turn to remind them that we are the ones that make gods.

Building on the success of last year’s The Scarlet Letter, we’re plotting a show that is both intimate and spectacular in scale to tell a story as epic as the Greek, Norse and Roman myths using light, sound, movement, stories and your imagination.

Conflicted Theatre are Gavin McEntee & Evan Lordan. We make shows through adaptation and devising. We make theatre that has physical vigour and flair. Our focus is on breaking down the hierarchy between text, movement, sound and image.

We use our imaginations as best we can to engage yours.

We have produced 'After Jekyll' (2010) and 'The Red Shoes' (for the Solstice programme as part of Cork Midsummer Festival 2011), and have developed several theatre shorts for events such as Culture Night ['Ups and Downs' (2011) and 'iTouch' (2012)] at Sample Studios, where we work from a studio/office space. The company’s third theatre piece 18–35 (also part-funded by people like you!) was devised by the company for a non-theatre space in Cork, premiered in April 2012, and was re¬mounted for the Solstice programme as part of Cork Midsummer Festival 2012.

Last year we staged The Scarlet Letter (once again, part-funded by you guys!), which was an adaptation of Hawthorne’s classic tale re-imagined as a piece of immersive theatre for the WE LIVE HERE platform as part of the CMF 2013. We followed that with an adaptation of the Snow White fairytale called Mirror for TDC Show in Novemver.

We plan to stage We Make Gods in an offsite venue (we’re very excited but can’t tell you where yet!) in Cork City centre at the end of June. We Make Gods will be an original, site-responsive piece of storytelling devised by of a cast of three professional actors and a creative team of writer-directors, sound, lighting & stage designers, not to mention our producer and stage manager.

We have raised 50% of our production costs so far, through private sponsorship and in-kind support. The €4,000 we hope to raise, through your generosity and support, would make up the remaining 50% of our budget, and allow for the successful realisation of this original and innovative production by some of Cork’s finest theatre professionals.

Thank you!!

Evan & Gavin

Fast Al's Pledge

We've just landed back in Cork after presenting a work-in-progress excerpt of WE MAKE GODS as part of Jolt: Volition in Galway and when we got back our campaign was boosted by a generous pledge from Fast Al's Pizzeria. Once again the community in Cork are going above and beyond to help us make this show a reality. Thank you Fast Al's Pizzeria and everyone else who has pledged.

Jolt: Volition

Saturday we performed some of WE MAKE GODS as part of an amazing night of theatre to wrap up Jolt: Volition along with 7 other fantastic theatre makers. This ends Evan's adventure in Galway, but sparks the process of completing the show and presenting it to you guys! We can't do it without you though. Please pledge what you can to make this production happen.

We Make Gods - to be made with your support...

Conflicted Theatre have been incredibly lucky to always have their work supported and funded by the local community. We are incredibly grateful for your donations over the years, and are hopeful that you will now help us bring our forthcoming production We Make Gods to the stage. Follow this link to hear what we've discovered during development of the piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOuPJ6rnsW8

More reasons we LOVE Fund It

As we look forward to our next production, WE MAKE GODS, we've also been having a look back at all the work you have enabled us to produce; last year The Scarlet Letter was funded entirely from sources within the local community. Staged as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, the Irish Theatre Magazine called it "an ambitious melding of physical theatre and classic literature". Have a look here on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3uaVlZ9fKc

Made with YOUR support

One week in and Fund It is as scary and exciting as ever! This isn't our first campaign and we are extremely grateful for all the support we have received over the years and we thank you for always being there for us. If you didn't get to see it back in 2012 here is a look at 18-35, which was made with your support. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JhdeLGhjeU
