"You Are Here"
An exhibition of new works by three emerging artists, Christine Browne, Abigail Denniston and Sarah Edmondson.
Opens Thur 05 Nov @ 6pm with guest speaker Dragana Jurisic
Runs until Sun 15 Nov, incl. workshops & talks
MART, 150a Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin
About the exhibition:
"You Are Here" offers...
A provocative exploration into our current relationship with maps, both old and new, and the way technology allows us to navigate our way around the world based on our current location. We no longer plan a route from A to B, but from ourselves. As every distance is now measured from where we stand, we each become the centre of our individual worlds.
A subjective and personal voyage into the art of map making, relishing in the lines, shapes, and scale of this picturesque language that we have depended on for centuries. A language that never claimed to be objective, but is often (mis)interpreted as such.
“[For]... maps are only human, after all.” - Dava Sobel
About the space:
We are very excited about bringing our work together under the title "You Are Here" and displaying our different mediums and discoveries under the one roof at the MART.
The MART is a beautiful exhibition space, a converted fire station in Rathmines. It is the perfect location for our exhibition. www.mart.ie
We plan to occupy the two galleries of the MART for 10 days, offering workshops and talks to engage the local community. We also aim to provide guided school tours of the exhibition, providing an example of a local gallery for students in preparation for the Leaving Certificate Art History examination.
Workshops and Talks:
Sat 07 Nov 3pm - Memory Maps, a drawing workshop for adults
Sat 14 Nov 3pm - Maps and Memorabilia, an artist's talk
School tours must be booked in advance, for enquiries email firstname.lastname@example.org
About the artists:
We all work using different mediums and different methods, but often our concepts overlap and intertwine.
Christine Browne is primarily a printmaker, however, she also makes very intricate line drawings and layered paintings, creating a visual web of information and personal imagery.
Abigail Denniston recently graduated with an MA in Photography from the London Metropolitan University. Her work ranges from documentary street photography to portraiture to digitally manipulated fine art prints. www.abigaildennistonphotography.com
Sarah Edmondson uses a variety of mediums in her work, incl. paint, photography, stop-motion, image transfers and cardboard construction. Her paintings often deal with false memories and fabricated narratives.
