What is this project about?
This children's book is designed to create discussion between young children and their parents/guardians about mindfulness and how it can be practiced by paying attention to the present moment. It recognises the impact of modern day stresses on family members and highlights strategies we can all use to bring a sense of calm and tranquility. There is a focus on intergenerational learning and the beauty of the natural world all the while espousing values and priorities more aligned to wellbeing and contentment. The illustrations have been carefully designed to be mostly free of time and place so that readers can locate themselves in their own present moment while learning from Zoe and her Great Uncle Charlie's relationship.

About the Author and Illustrator
I am the author of Zoe's Present which is the first of my children's books that I am publishing. I have trained and worked as a Youth and Community Worker and deliver children's storytelling workshops. I also have an interest in wellbeing and positive mental health which is reflected in my work as both an actor and in my writing.
Aine Kelly holds a degree in Fine Arts and is currently studying Graphic Design. She is the founder of Inky and the Pen under which she has been producing water color illustrations for several years.
There are no risks as the book is completely finished and laid out for the publisher.

Why we are choosing crowdfunding
We've made the decision to crowdfund as we are both a part of a much larger arts network in Donegal and are confident that we will get the local support we need to reach our target. Valerie is also confident of the support of the youth and community sector across Donegal having worked with many community and voluntary sector agencies over the years. We do not have other funding sources.
Thank you
A heartfelt thank you for taking the time to read about our project. This book holds great potential in making a positive impact on the wellbeing of young families particularly during these strange times we live in.
Update posted on Monday 19th October '20 @ 01:10:45
We're delighted to announce that we are two thirds of the way there with our campaign!! Funders have expressed great enthusiasm for Zoe's Present which is a children's book about mindfulness due to be released at the end of November. We have an impressive scheme of rewards to offer including prints from the book, t-shirts, original watercolour paintints, bookmarks, children's storytelling/creative writing workshops and personalised thank you cards for each contributor. There is a little way to go yet and we would very much appriciate you support in making this sensitively written and beautifully illustrated book a reality. It promises to be an important and accessible resource for young children and their parents/guardians to introduce and begin practising mindfulness together at a time it's most needed in the world. Thank you
Valerie
